Mid-week Message
Greetings!
“For whatever was written in former days was written for our instruction, so that by steadfastness and by the encouragement of the scriptures we might have hope.” - Romans 15:4
Last Sunday we started Year 1 of the Narrative Lectionary! The Narrative Lectionary follows the Hebrew Scriptures in order through the fall up until Christmas. It touches on major themes: Creation/Flood, Abraham, Jacob/Joseph, Exodus, 10 Commandments, David, Solomon, and the Prophets. Then it switches over to a Gospel in January. There are four years in this lectionary: one for each of the four Gospels. This year we will follow the Gospel of Matthew starting in January and going through Easter. After Easter, we read from Acts and some of the New Testament Letters. Throughout the entire year, we get a bird’s eye view of the whole narrative of the Bible.
Join us this Fall as we embark on our journey through the Scriptures in the Narrative Lectionary! These familiar texts show the breadth and variety of voices within Scripture. They invite us to hear the stories of Abraham and Sarah, Moses and the prophets, Jesus, and Paul. Listening to the many different voices within Scripture enriches our life of faith. Come and be encouraged through the Scriptures that God is with us!
Grace and peace, Rev. Sarina
