Mid-week Message

Greetings!

“Your steadfast love, O Lord, extends to the heavens, your faithfulness to the clouds. Your righteousness is like the mighty mountains, your judgements are like the great deep; you save humans and animals alike, O Lord.” - Psalm 36:5-6

The Pandemic has been one of those strange things that has closed some doors but unexpectedly opened others. For me, the Pandemic has opened the door to the world of owning a pet. I have gotten to know my neighbors’ dogs so well since we’ve all been working from home. And TikTok has been a treasure trove of pet videos. I’ve learned a lot about companion pets that I never knew before. Did you know that a cat mothered a duckling and carried the duckling around on its back? In the world of companion pets, there are many unlikely friendships.

The more I learn about pets, the more I learn about the love of God. Pets need companionship and love just as much as people do. (Those of you with ornery cats might disagree with me!) I’ve learned from my neighbors’ canine companions that dogs have a special gift for steadfast love. These dogs have given me a deeper understanding of what steadfast love is like. They also require love from us in return, which pushes us on to become more loving.

My family will welcome a kitten into our family in a couple of weeks. We are so excited! I have never owned a cat before, but I am ready to learn the ropes. I am also very curious to see what God will teach me about God’s own self through this new little feline. I am also looking forward to learning more about loving God’s good creation by caring for one of God’s good creatures.

If you have or have had a pet, I would love to hear about it! Any cat advice is welcome. :-)

Grace and peace,

Rev. Sarina
