Greetings! “Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice. Let your gentleness be known to everyone. The Lord is near. Do not worry about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” - Philippians 4:4-7
This year I am a Commissioner to the 2021 General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church in Canada, which is meeting this week! I would like to offer a prayer for the General Assembly today and will continue our weekly message series about discerning the Holy Spirit next week.
Gracious God, who calls people from east and west and north and south into your kingdom on earth, we ask your blessing to be upon the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church in Canada. Thank you that the Holy Spirit has been poured out on all the earth so that your strong presence is with all the Commissioners as they meet together through online platforms in their own homes across the country. We pray for wisdom for the Moderator and the Clerks as they navigate leading the meeting through these new platforms. We thank you that the technology has worked and we pray your blessing upon it for continued smooth execution. We ask for the fruit of the Spirit to ripen in the hearts of all Commissioners as they consider the business before them. We pray for unity in Christ, trusting the work of Jesus in our midst, whether we personally like the outcome of the votes or not. Help us to fix our eyes on you, O Jesus, the author and perfector of our faith. Give us strength and courage to follow you in the direction you guide this General Assembly. Give us faith to trust your work among the Commissioners as you give us a heading for following you as the church in the wilderness of this life. May the Presbyterian Church in Canada, in all its diversity, be a true ambassador of your ministry of reconciliation in this world. In Jesus’ name we pray,
Many blessings to you in Christ,
