Mid-week Message

Greetings!

“God’s word is living and active, sharper than any double-edged sword. It pierces so deeply that it divides even soul and spirit, bone and marrow, and is able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.” - Hebrews 4:12

One of the ways that the Holy Spirit speaks to us is through the Scriptures. The Holy Spirit brings the Scriptures to life. Through the Spirit, they are living and active. This means that while the Scriptures themselves don’t change, our understanding of them does. As we grow in faith and wisdom through Christ, we are able to learn new things from God through the same Scriptures, by the power of the Holy Spirit.

God has given us the Scriptures to help us grow. While there are comforting verses in the Bible, Hebrews 4:12 reminds us that Scripture’s primary purpose is not to comfort us, but to help us become more and more like Jesus. They challenge us and are a gift that helps us grow. Growth means change and change is hard.

The Holy Spirit speaks to us through the Bible to help us grow and change in order to become more and more like Jesus. If you don’t have a practice of reading the Bible, I encourage you to start with the Psalms or the Gospel of Luke. Find a quiet place to read and reflect. Open yourself to the Spirit as you read. Lately I have been going to the lake with my Bible and writing in a journal about what the Holy Spirit is saying to me through the Scriptures. May you receive with an open mind what the Holy Spirit is saying to you today through the Scriptures.

Grace and peace, Rev. Sarina
