Highlights from September Session meeting

September 16, 2016

Session met on Sept 13th with renewed energy following summer.  A few decisions will be of interest to you.

We will celebrate Holy Communion at both services on October 2nd, which is World Communion Day.  What a great way to feel a connection with our brothers and sisters in Christ around the world.  Hope you ALL can participate.

We enthusiastically agreed to the suggestion from the Worship and Music Committee that the church be decorated with fresh non-perishable vegetables and fruit on Thanksgiving Sunday with things like squash, apples, etc, and that these then be donated to Chez Doris.  What a great idea!  More details will be provided about when you can bring the “decorations”.

We will have a blended service on October 16th, starting at 10:30 and followed by the famous Board Brunch!  There are so many wonderful things to say about this annual event.  There is considerable enthusiasm around the planning for the blended service.  The cooks are re-honing their skills.  Planning by the Board is well underway.  The excitement about the combination of great food and great conversation and community-building is palpable.  And our Treasurer is looking forward to your contributions to this important Fund-Raiser for Briarwood!

We will be holding a Congregational Meeting on Saturday, October 29th, at 2 pm at Briarwood.  As promised in the spring, we have been considering how best to move forward with the CYD position and we would like to share ideas from Session with you, and get your ideas.  Do plan to attend!

Elders will be organizing District meetings over the next couple of months.  District meetings provide an opportunity for people to have conversation and light refreshments with others in the congregation who you may only know by face, or not know at all!  The meetings provide elders with a chance to answer your questions and receive any suggestions that you may have.

Individuals who are considering joining Briarwood should speak with me.  We will be having a New Member’s Sunday this fall.

We continue to pray for the work of the Search Committee as they screen applicants for the position of Minister of Briarwood.  We place our confidence in them and our trust in God that an individual well-suited to our needs will emerge.

We also pray for one another.  It sometimes seems that the many pastoral concerns overwhelm the celebrations, but do take time each day to express thanks for all the blessings we receive.
